LINX - “The missing link in your mobile workforce”

The Microbus LINX is the first true demountable tablet PC with an integral TETRA modem that has been specifically designed for the vehicle.

The LINX meets all the hardware needs of any remote worker requiring a versatile mobile data solution. Full PC functionality is provided both in and out of the vehicle and seamlessly links the user, vehicle and control room. The LINX is cleverly designed with a unique and dynamic range of controlled entry features for user authentication to optimise security.

The multi-bearer flexibility of the LINX allows the user to choose the best communication technology for their environment. Additionally, connectivity through 3G, GPRS, GSM and HSDPA offers true broadband speeds with communication back to the office databases via these routes or via the secure TETRA modem.

WiFi offers many other possibilities to the user such as automated data download in a controlled zone as the vehicle passes through.

The unit’s GPS functionality enables all the standard options like satellite navigation and vehicle location. It also facilitates automatic despatch of the nearest vehicle to an incident or call zone from the control centre by providing full visibility of all vehicles within the fleet. In addition, the unit’s GPS Mileage Monitor offers a benefit to the fleet manager by sending service intervals for each vehicle. Bluetooth provides the same range of possibilities to this tablet PC that were previously the domain of either the home user or the mobile phone.

The Microbus LINX demountable PC provides a diverse and future-proof platform meeting the needs of today's vehicle-based worker.

It features a large daylight-viewable touchscreen, a range of integrated wireless connectivity including 3G, EDGE, GPRS, HSDPA, Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS allowing the user to choose the best communication options for their environment. To support public safety users the TETRA version incorporates its own TETRA modem and antenna for mission-critical communications.

To aid workflow at the scene of an incident, the LINX has an integrated digital camera for still image capture and audio notes can be recorded with the unit’s microphone. To optimise data security, the LINX offers a range of controlled entry features for user authentication including a fingerprint reader and Dallas iButton.

Housed in a tough magnesium alloy case with ergonomic rubber surrounds, the LINX is protection classified to IP54 for dust and water ingress and designed to MIL-STD-810F test procedures for drop, shock, vibration resistance, and exposure to extremes of temperature.

As a demountable tablet computer, the LINX provides full PC functionality within a rugged and compact form factor for use both inside and outside the vehicle. In the vehicle the LINX can be docked into the compact docking station and automatically connect to expansion systems to provide higher functionality. Out of the vehicle it can be used handheld or as part of an ‘office in a bag’ solution that features docking within a pre-wired protective bag that includes a mains power adapter, keyboard, document scanner and printer. Finally, as a deskstation, the LINX can be docked in a specially designed desktop cradle with links to mains power, a keyboard and associated peripherals.
